Inspiring Excellence

Welcome to Kindergarten
Welcome to Lake Stevens Schools! We are excited to welcome you and your child to our school district. We are proud of our schools, teachers, students and facilities, and want to make this first step in your child's education a great experience.
The district's elementary schools hosted a Kindergarten Parent Information Night on March 12. Schools began accepting kindergarten registration packets on March 17. Register now!
Kindergarten enrollment packets may be completed and dropped off at your neighborhood school beginning March 17, 2015. In order to attend kindergarten in the fall of 2015, a child must be five-years-old on or before Aug. 31, 2015.
When registering your student, please bring the following required documents:
  • Completed Enrollment Packet
  • Birth Certificate (official copy, not the keepsake provided by the hospital)
  • Proof of Immunization
  • Proof of Residence (includes lease or rental agreement, PUD bill or cable bill)
If you are not sure which neighborhood school your student should attend, please reference the School District Boundaries Map or enter your address into e-Link (Login: LS1, Password: Search)

Due to overcrowding in Lake Stevens School District’s elementary schools, new enrollment for the 2015-16 school year is limited to those students who live within the school district boundaries. This means that new non-resident variances for elementary students—including kindergarten—will not be approved. This does not impact non-resident students who are already attending LSSD schools. (However, these students need to reapply annually, no later than June 1 of each year, in order to be granted admission.)

Tuition-Based Full Day Kindergarten
Tuition based full day kindergarten is offered on a limited basis in all of our elementary schools. The tuition-based program is an option that is provided on a space-available basis and will be contingent upon sufficient enrollment to fill the class. The program is funded by a tuition fee that pays the difference between the state-funded program and the full-day (every day) kindergarten program. Tuition for the full-day program for the 2015-16 school year is $2,950.

NEW! On July 2 we were notified that Hillcrest, Mt. Pilchuck and Skyline are now eligible for state-funded, full-day kindergarten beginning this coming school year. Funding for the full-day programs was part of the Legislature’s biennial operating budget, which was passed at the end of June.

Determination of eligibility for state-funded full-day kindergarten was based on an individual school’s free or reduced lunch percentage from October of the 2014-15 school year. Glenwood, Highland and Sunnycrest’s poverty percentages did not fall within the threshold set by the state to receive funding this coming school year.

Hillcrest, Mt. Pilchuck and Skyline families who paid the $150 deposit for full-day kindergarten will receive a refund check in the mail (to the mailing address we have on file) by the end of August.

Students at Hillcrest, Mt. Pilchuck and Skyline will automatically enrolled in the full-day program at his or her respective school. Lake Stevens will offer families the opportunity to opt-out of the full-day schedule and attend morning sessions only. In these cases, families will be responsible for providing student transportation home from school.
In the 2016-17 school year, full-day kindergarten will be funded in all Lake Stevens schools, and on a statewide basis.

  • A kindergarten registration packet must be submitted with the application or already on file at the school.
  • Initial applications for the full-day kindergarten program will take place between Tuesday, March 17, 2015, and Friday, May 22, 2015, at 12 p.m.
  • Parents should complete an application form and return it to the school with a $150 deposit check, made payable to Lake Stevens School District. This deposit is non-refundable except under the circumstances that we are unable to offer your child a place in the program.
  • Applications will be accepted on a space available basis.
  • School principals will notify parents after May 22 to verify that a place has been secured for their child.
  • If insufficient applications have been received by May 22, parents will be notified of this and a refund of the deposit will be made. In this case, students will be enrolled in the regular kindergarten program.

Reduced-Fee Tuition:
A limited number of reduced-fee tuition spaces are available to students who qualify based on family income. The criteria used in determining this qualification follows the same guidelines as the free or reduced-price lunch program. The reduced tuition will be one-half of the regular tuition. If you think you might qualify for reduced-fee tuition, please complete the Reduced Tuition Application Form.

Out of District Students:
New non-resident variances for the 2015-16 school year will not be approved due to overcrowding.
