North Lake Middle School named
“School of Distinction”

North Lake Middle School has earned the School of Distinction 2009 award for exemplary improvement in student achievement as measured by the WASL.  Over the past seven years North Lake students have demonstrated significant improvement on the WASL test in the areas of reading and math.

In praising the work of the school’s teachers and staff, Gary Taber, Principal of North Lake Middle School, said “This award demonstrates the power of our collaborative efforts to improve student learning.  Because we have all worked together, we can all take pride in the improved performance of our students.”

The Center for Educational Effectiveness and Phi Delta Kappa of  Washington State recognizes the top 5% of high achieving schools and North Lake is one of  25 middle schools across the state of Washington to receive this honor.

Dr. David Burgess, Superintendent of Lake Stevens Schools, informed North Lake’s staff of the School of Distinction award at a faculty meeting after the first day school.  He praised the staff saying,  “ I congratulate you and thank you for your dedication to our students and for the great work you deliver every day.  Recognition of this magnitude does not come without significant work and effort on your part – you should be proud of your collective accomplishment.”

North Lake staff and students will receive a School of Distinction banner for display in their school and representatives from North Lake will attend a recognition luncheon and receive an award certificate for display.
