As we begin our journey together I wanted to share with you a little about myself. I grew up in Arlington, Washington on a small family farm with my parents and younger sister. I attended Seattle Pacific University where I attained my Bachelor’s degree in Education. In June of 2016 I graduated with my Masters in Education form Concordia University in Portland. The biggest joy in my life is my dog Kenya. I have a variety of hobbies such as, reading, hiking, skiing, and being with my friends and family. I love working with children; mainly because I enjoy watching them discover, grow, and learn throughout the year. I believe in a balanced and strong learning community that is built off of respect and support. Through this philosophy students will grow as individuals as well as learners. They will realize that they are unique and worthy of respect. Also this year I hope to help your student take responsibility for their learning and to be able to take pride in the work that they are doing not only at school but at home as well. I hope that you will partner with me to create the very best learning opportunities for the children in our classroom.

This year in second grade your student will be introduced to many new ideas in math, writing, reading, social studies, and science. In math they will be working with numbers in complex ways. In writing we will begin  the year building complete sentences and by the end we will be creating well developed paragraphs. This year we hope to make great gains in reading for every child. In social studies we will be learning all about our community. Lastly, I am excited to introduce the science unit; pebbles, sand, and silt. I can’t wait to get started.
