• Operations, Health & Safety


    The Operations Workgroup is charged with making recommendations on what operating school will look like when we return this fall.

    Guiding Question: "Within state parameters, our physical building spaces and within our guiding values, what do we recommend operations look like when school starts?"

    Workgroup Tasks

    1. Under the non-negotiables set by DOH, L&I and OSPI, develop recommendations for the following:
      • Educate staff and students on “Stay home when sick”
      • Educate students about hygiene and provide opportunities to practice good hygiene
      • Screen staff and students upon entry
      • Social distance our staff and students
      • Wear some kind of face covering (masks, shields, cloth coverings)
      • Clean and sanitize our buildings, classrooms, high touch surface areas

    Workgroup Membership


    • Teresa Main - Assistant Superintendent of Business & Operations
    • Miriam Tencate - Executive Director of Special Services
    • John Balmer - Executive Director of Human Resource Services
    • Robb Stanton - Executive Director of Operations Services

    Parents, teachers, district and building administrators, department leaders, learning specialists, paraeducators, office professionals, nurses and special education teachers

    Meeting goals:

    • Gain shared knowledge of the scope of our work and establish common understandings
    • Surface thoughts, ideas, and challenges based on the non-negotiables listed above
    • Review all thoughts & challenges then move into Break-Out sessions
    • Develop recommendations for operations within each area listed above
    • Identify potential drawbacks or challenges that we can’t make recommendations for
    • Finalize recommendations
  • July 20 Meeting Synopsis

    The group reviewed our objectives, thoughts and challenges from last meeting and the resource documents then broke out to five (5) break out groups:

    • Educate staff and students on ‘stay home when sick’ and ‘hygiene’
    • Face Coverings
    • Social Distancing
    • Daily Screening
    • Cleaning and sanitizing

    These sub groups began formulating recommendations.
    At the end of the meeting we regrouped as a whole and the facilitators summarized their discussions.

    1. Reviewed the objective “To make recommendations to the Administrative Team on how we should operate K-12 public schools under the conditions set before us by the Wa St Dept of Health (DOH), Dept of Labor & Industries (L&I) and Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).”
    2. Described a sample of the end product - Similar to the City of Everett
    3. Reviewed the timeline for the work to be completed
    4. Reviewed the resources in the Shared Drive
    5. Reviewed the non-negotiables from DOH, L&I and OSPI
    6. Gathered thoughts, ideas and challenges based on the non-negotiable items
    7. Created a Parking Lot for non-operational concerns to be given to the other workgroups for review
    8. Each participant picked which sub group they wanted to work in to develop recommendations for that particular non-negotiable item
    9. Defined future meeting date/times
      1. July 20 | 8:30-10:30

      3. July 28 | 10:00-12:00
