Student Insurance
The safety of our students is one of our most important concerns. Even so, accidents do happen and resulting medical treatment (ambulance transport, surgery, hospitalization, etc.) can be very expensive.
Please know that the District does not assume responsibility for these costs. However, as a service to you and your child, Lake Stevens School District has joined with thousands of others by offering you access to a low-cost, voluntary purchase student accident/health insurance program. The program is arranged and administered by Myers-Stevens & Toohey & Co., Inc., a firm that has specialized in such coverage for 40 years. Program Highlights
Full details of the 2024-2025 program are in our brochure but there are several features which we believe should be emphasized to parents and relevant school staff who deal with injuries and insurance matters. These include:
- While parents are completely free to seek care from any licensed provider, they also have access to an extensive contracted provider network to potentially further reduce out-of-pocket costs. See details at www.firsthealth.com.
- Our benefits based on “Usual, Customary and Reasonable” (UCR) charges are derived from prevailing charge data valued at the 90th percentile. We don’t base our allowables on “average” charges. Rather, our allowables are meant to equal or exceed what the great majority of providers charge for a given service in a given area. Again, we do this to minimize out-of-pocket costs to your parents. More details at www.fairhealth.org.
- Regardless of the benefit level selected, ALL accident plans, and the Student Accident & Sickness Plan cover eligible charges for Ambulance, Emergency Room and Emergency Physician at 100% of UCR up to policy limits.
- Regardless of the plan selected, all cover eligible expenses for the evaluation and treatment of qualified, interscholastic sports-related concussions at 100% of UCR up to policy limits.
