Hate Speech Training Video

In an ongoing effort that began in 2022, we developed a comprehensive training for all of our staff members and students around defining and interrupting hate speech and bias incidents in our school district. Our staff members have received ongoing comprehensive training to interrupt, document, and report incidents that dehumanize, insult, vilify, and/or embarrass people based on their real or perceived belonging in a protected class, knowing that protected classes are characteristics we all share: our races, our ethnicities, our genders and religions, our disabilities, and our sexual orientations.

Over the course of the 2023-24 school year, secondary students will receive this comprehensive training with Dr. Meadows, our Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. As of January 2024, we have reached all students at Cavelero Mid High School, and almost all students at Lake Stevens High School. We are grateful to our community for continued support and unity in order to ensure our schools and school communities are spaces that all students know they belong and can focus on their best learning.
