• Lake Stevens Middle School was built in 1961. The bond will modernize and expand the school at its current location:
  • A new classroom wing for science, technology and Career and Technical Education.
  • Modern classrooms and instructional spaces built to support flexible learning, collaboration and technology.
  • Replacement of heating, ventilation, plumbing and fire protection systems to ensure the school meets current health and safety standards.
  • A new gym to support PE and school athletics, and expand community recreational offerings.
• Safety and security improvements including electronic locks on portables, a secure office reception area, and fencing with electronically locking gates around buildings and portable classrooms.
• Aging portables will be removed, and remaining portables will be relocated within the new secure perimeter.

Why isn’t more work being done at North Lake North Lake Middle School with the bond?

North Lake was last modernized in 2000, making it more recently updated than the schools prioritized in the bond. Additionally, several improvement projects were completed at North Lake last summer, including new paint, carpeting, tiles, and HVAC upgrades.

The bond includes much-needed updates to North Lake, including:

• Enhanced safety and security features, such as perimeter fencing, secure reception areas, and electronic locks on portable classrooms.
• Improved spaces for Special Education services to better meet students’ educational and physical needs.
• Replacing the non-functioning lights on the athletic field, allowing for extended use by both the school and the community.

While North Lake was not the primary focus of this bond, these proposed updates highlight the district’s commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and functional learning environments across all schools.

• Glenwood is over 30 years old! The bond will modernize and expand the school in its current location.
• Classroom doors, a secure office reception area and other safety measures, including fencing with electronically locking gates around buildings, portable classrooms, and playgrounds, will be updated to enhance security.
• A new gymnasium will provide dedicated space for both school and community use, ensuring all students have a proper facility for PE. Currently, our youngest learners have PE in a portable classroom, and we share one space for both PE and lunch, making scheduling a challenge. This new gym will allow us to expand our PE program and run our lunch schedule simultaneously. The new gym will also allow for whole-school gatherings and assemblies to celebrate our Gator Pride.

Building schools on existing district property reduces land acquisition costs and uses the infrastructure already in place to support a new school (roads, sewer, utilities).

To mitigate traffic and neighborhood impacts, start and dismissal times will be staggered for Stevens Creek and the new school, along with the Early Learning Center.
