Elementary School #8 Timeline (PDF)

Once the new elementary school is finished, it will temporarily serve as the home for Glenwood students and staff while Glenwood is modernized. After that transition, a school board–appointed boundary committee will review and recommend updates to elementary attendance boundaries across the district to ensure balanced enrollment. Elementary School #8 (to be renamed later through a separate school naming process) is anticipated to open as a newly-boundaried school sometime after the 2027-28 school year.

FAQ

A new neighborhood school for our growing community

Aerial render of the new elementary school

Here’s a bird’s-eye view of our new elementary school, which will be built across from Stevens Creek Elementary and the Early Learning Center. Strategically located on district-owned land in the northwest portion of our district, this school meets our growing community’s needs while making smart use of existing roads, utilities, and infrastructure. Staggered start and dismissal times will help ease traffic and minimize neighborhood impacts.

Thanks to voter approval of the 2025 school construction bond, we are moving forward with a new elementary school—Elementary School #8.

This school will be built off Lake Drive, across from Stevens Creek Elementary and the Early Learning Center, to serve residential growth in the north end of our district and relieve overcrowding at all of our elementary schools.

The site for Elementary School #8 is district-owned property in the northwest portion of our district, where most of our current and projected residential growth is occurring. While this area lies within the City of Marysville, the homes are within Lake Stevens School District boundaries—and those residents already pay property taxes that support our schools.

Building here allows us to make efficient use of existing roads, utilities, and infrastructure while serving students close to where they live.

A sneak peek at elementary school #8

The team that spent time last spring collaborating on our “schools of the future” was invited to a sneak peek of Elementary School #8 in late October. They saw early renderings, asked questions, and learned more about the project timeline.

Collaboration for schools of the future

In the spring of 2025, educators, school staff, district leaders and planning experts worked together to create shared educational facility standards for our elementary schools. These standards guide the design of elementary school #8, as well as the modernized Skyline and Glenwood elementary schools.
