Modernization & Expansion Construction Update

Lake Stevens School District is moving forward with the modernization and expansion of Lake Stevens Middle School, made possible through the voter-approved 2025 School Construction Bond. This project will update the existing campus while expanding capacity and improving learning spaces for students.

• Temporary student relocation: 2028-29 school year
• Estimated reopening: 2029-30 school year

*2028-29 SCHOOL YEAR: Lake Stevens Middle School students will attend Elementary School #8 while their current school is modernized and expanded.

Project Overview

The modernization and expansion of Lake Stevens Middle School will update the existing campus to support modern teaching and learning while increasing capacity for future enrollment. The updated school will be designed to serve approximately 850 students, with improved learning spaces and updated facilities that support current instructional programs.

Why this Project is Needed

The modernized Lake Stevens Middle School will:

• Expand capacity to serve a growing student population
• Update classrooms and learning spaces to support current instructional and program needs
• Modernize science labs, Career and Technical Education spaces, gym facilities, and more
• Improve the campus layout, including expanded parking and site circulation
• Separate bus circulation from parent drop-off and pick-up, addressing safety needs
• Address community concerns related to traffic and parking

Site Consideration During Construction

Lake Stevens Middle School is located adjacent to Skyline Elementary, and Skyline students will be on site when middle school construction begins. Student safety is a top priority throughout the construction process.

District and construction teams are working closely with school administrators to carefully plan construction activities, minimize disruptions to the school day, and maintain safe access for students, staff, and families. Construction areas will be clearly separated from school operations, and efforts will be made to keep the work contained while school is in session.

Construction staging, storage, and parking for both the Lake Stevens Middle School Growth and Modernization and New Skyline Elementary projects are taking place on the Lake Stevens Middle School football field. When work on both projects is complete, the field will reopen with new turf and lighting.
