After earning my teaching certificate from Pacific Lutheran University, I began my teaching career in 1993 as a 5th grade teacher for Arlington Public Schools. I taught 5th grade for five years then moved to Post Middle School to teach 7th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies.
In 1996, I earned my Masters in Teaching from Lesley College.
In 2002, I joined the Lake Stevens Middle School Pirates.
In 2009, I accomplished the goal of becoming a Nationally Board Certified teacher in English/Language Arts. This 2017-18 school year, I am embarking on the renewal process.
As I enter my 25th year in education, I am excited to be teaching two sections of 6th Grade Challenge English Language Arts, and a 6th Grade Advanced Challenge English Language Arts and Social Studies Block.
I am a "Proud Pirate" and member of the Lake Stevens community. My daughter, HannaLei Hermes, is a 2008 graduate of Lake Stevens High School, earned her BA and teaching certificate from Pacific Lutheran University, and last year earned her Masters in Educational Technology Leadership from Seattle Pacific University. She is a 9th grade English teacher at Cavelero Mid-High. My son, Jack, graduated from Lake Stevens High School in 2014 and is currently traveling Asia, learning about new cultures, and being of service where possible.
