WORKING CAN EARN YOU CREDIT!

In the State of Washington, students may earn .5 high school CTE credit for each 180 hours of documented work, repeatable up to 2 credits. Students must be 16 years old to participate and have taken or be enrolled in a CTE designated course aligned to their career goals. Students often obtain their own job first before enrolling in this credit option, so it is important to discuss your eligibilty when having your Parent/School Work Authorization LNI Form signed by the school. Hours toward this requirement can only count for credit once all training agreements are signed by the Student, Guardian, Worksite Learning Coordinator, and Employer.

NEW: All Work Authorization Forms will be signed by Mrs. Dilling, Worksite Learning Coordinator

Forms may be dropped off outside room W138 (West Hall) or in the Work Forms Mailbox located just outside the counseling center. Mrs. Dilling will schedule a 10-15 minute appointment with interested students to review eligibility, check grades and/or sign work forms for employment.
Appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. (Use this Meeting Link schedule a time.)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT "WORKSITE LEARNING"

"Worksite Learning" (WSL) means earning credit for work during a learning experience that occurs at a qualified worksite outside the classroom. In connection with a student's high school and beyond plan, a CTE certified Worksite Learning Coordinator supports a student and their employer throughout the experience providing guidance in skill development, making onsite observations, assisting with setting learning goals and conducting regular evaluations of student's progress. Students are required to submit paystubs or evidence of work hours regularly. Your Worksite Learning Coordinator can help you determine if you have taken eligible coursework and discuss placement options. Here is the process to sign up to earn credit:

FAQ's: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When can I sign up?
Students may enroll in Worksite Learning at any time throughout the year, August through April as long as they believe they have enough scheduled work hours to reach 180 hours by the end of the year. Follow the Student Application Instructions included on this page. Enrollment is processed through SchooLinks. Check your student email regularly for notifications regarding your status or for reminders during the program.

Is this a real class on my transcript?
Yes. Students are given credit in a Worksite Learning CTE course that matches their current employment position. We offer: Business & Marketing, STEM, Skilled & Technical Trades, Family & Consumer Science and Health Science Worksite Learning courses.

What companies support Worksite Learning?
Most businesses licensed with the State of Washington are eligible to participate. This means you get a real paycheck and have taxes taken out of your check (not volunteer or cash-based businesses). Examples include: Tommy Hilfiger, Gap, American Eagle, Chick-Fli-A, Dominos, Jimmy John's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Ross, McDonald's, Target, Anthony's, Kohl's and more. We are unable to work with Walmart at this time as they cannot sign government paperwork (including working with schools). Speak with your Worksite Learning Coordinator to find out if your place of employment qualifies.

How Can I Be Successful?

  • Complete the Worksite Learning registration as soon as possible so you can begin counting hours.
  • No hours will count retroactively, only from the date ALL electronic forms are completed.
  • During Worksite Learning maintain communication through school email with your WSL Coordinator.
  • Turn in hours monthly on time (by the 10th of the month) to ensure your hours will be counted.
  • If you change jobs, reach out to your Coordinator to make sure documentation is in place.

Most of all, have fun learning and growing in your workforce skills. These will be the foundation for success in your future career!
