Little Viking Band CampLittle Viking Band Camp is free. There is no pre-registration for this event, just show up. Spread the word to other band parents. Your student will need a sack lunch.
Date: August 17 & 18, 2019
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Little Viking Band Camp is held every year in mid August on the Saturday and Sunday following LSHS Band Camp and is the first official welcome into one of the largest programs in our district. The purpose of this camp is to get every incoming 6th grade student off on the left foot (band joke) and ready to play and rehearse on day 1 of school. Essentially, we bring all the beginners together and match them up by instrument with their high school counterparts (beginning flutes with high school flutes etc.) and give them small group lessons for two days.
Camp begins at 10 a.m. and after some short team building games lead by the senior drum major they will break into clinics with the LSHS band students. The LSHS students who are teaching them play their instrument and will also show them how to assemble and care for their instrument, the basics of embouchure, and their first notes. At the end of camp on Sunday (approximately 1:30) the students will perform a short concert for parents and demonstrate what they have learned in just two short sessions.
Students should have an instrument to attend Little Viking Band Camp; however, if you do not yet have an instrument, our preferred vendor will be onsite Thursday evening to assist from 4-7 p.m.
Students who have already pre-ordered an instrument (usually at an end of the year rental night) can pick them up at the Rental Pickup on Friday, August 16th, from 4-7 p.m. in the North Lake Middle School Cafeteria. If you haven't already rented an instrument, you may do so at that time.
Accessories, books and cleaning supplies will also be available.
