New kindergarten classrooms to be built at each elementary school

Lake Stevens School District was one of 21 districts in the state to receive a K-3 Class Size Reduction Grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The grant provides funds to assist districts with adding new K-3 classroom spaces. In Lake Stevens, a portion of this money will be used to add two new kindergarten classrooms in each of our six elementary schools.

Design of the new classrooms will align with the current look and feel of each existing school.

Glenwood

Classrooms will be added to the existing kindergarten wing at the front of the school. Construction will begin after Stevens Creek Elementary opens in September 2018 to lessen the impact of the already crowded school. Construction is expected to be completed in the middle of the 2018-19 school year.

Highland

Classrooms will be added to the back of the school, outside the double doors near the kindergarten playground, which will be relocated. Construction is underway and is expected to be complete in the middle of the 2017-18 school year.

Hillcrest
Classrooms will be added to the front of the school, adjacent to the staff parking lot. Construction is underway and is expected to be complete in the middle of the 2017-18 school year.

Mt. Pilchuck
Classrooms will be added in the area where the Giving Garden is currently located. To maintain this important school and community resource, and to respect the time and efforts that went into creating the garden, it will be relocated further south so it can be used in the 2017-18 school year. A landscape architect is assisting with the relocation. The new Giving Garden will be larger and many of the current features (tree, artwork, shed and many of the plants) will be retained. Construction is underway and is expected to be complete in the middle of the 2017-18 school year.

Skyline
Classrooms will be added to the existing kindergarten wing at the front of the school. Construction will begin after Stevens Creek Elementary opens in September 2018 to lessen the impact of the already crowded school. Construction is expected to be completed in the middle of the 2018-19 school year.

Sunnycrest
Classrooms will be added to the south end of the kindergarten wing, near the portable classrooms. One of the portables will need to be moved next to Portable #7. A foundation will be built for this portable beginning in late May. Construction is underway and is expected to be complete in the middle of the 2017-18 school year.
