2020-21 School year to begin with complete distance learning from home

On Aug. 12, our Board of Directors approved a resolution adopting our District Reopening Plan. This plan includes three learning models. The learning model that will be used at any given time will be dependent on guidance from state and local health authorities

These include:

  • Distance learning at home
  • Hybrid learning that includes a combination of in-person and distance learning
  • Complete in-person learning for all students

We will begin the school year with full distance learning from home.

Please note: When we are able to make the transition to hybrid learning, families will have the opportunity to keep their children at home in a distance learning model. This will allow families to select the learning model that works best for their child, and their individual situations.

Beginning a new school year online is very different, and it’s something we have never done before. We are grateful for your patience and grace as we worked to refine our Distance Learning Plan.

Please visit our Distance Learning webpage for detailed information, and a snapshot of the learning day for elementary and secondary students.

This fall’s distance learning will be significantly different from last spring with explicit expectations and accountability for teaching and learning. Thank you for your feedback in our surveys, via email, and on our social media channels. Please know that we heard you, and we have made numerous enhancements.

We know the importance of building rapport and relationships between teachers and their students. The first few days of school will be focused on community-building, setting academic expectations, and training students and families on tools for success. This is very similar to the community building that happens during a traditional school year in the classroom.

We don’t have all of the answers just yet, but our amazing staff has been hard at work all summer, and we will keep up this important work to ensure that our students are supported academically and emotionally. In the meantime please visit our FAQ. If you have additional questions, please email them to tellus@lkstevens.wednet.edu

We look forward to the return to school, and the opportunity to reconnect with our students, staff and families.
