Athletic updates for Cavelero and Lake Stevens High School programs
The fall season is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 22 with Football, Boys Tennis, Girls Swimming, Cross Country, Volleyball and Girls Soccer. Our athletic directors and administrators are committed to implementing the guidelines established by WIAA, agreed upon with our WESCO League, and recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Snohomish Health District.
We need your help! No spectators will be allowed at any athletic practices, competitions or events. This decision was made by the entire WESCO League based on the Washington State Department of Health guidelines for many reasons, including:
The focus is student athletes. Bringing in spectators increases the risk of exposure.
Each sport has a maximum capacity, which includes all athletes, coaches, referees, trainers, managers, etc. This leaves little to no room for spectators.
Inability to manage contract tracing and COVID-19 screening for spectators.
Leagues will routinely revisit these decisions over the course of the season.
We know that this is disheartening for parents, families and our amazing community. Please remember that this is not permanent; it is simply another factor of the global pandemic we are all facing. Our main focus is to serve our student athletes and to allow them a safe and healthy environment to practice and compete.
The Lake Stevens High School and Cavelero Mid High School campuses will be closed except to athletes, coaches, game personnel and programming (i.e. pool). Failure to support these guidelines could potentially lead to forfeitures and disqualifications.
School and district officials are looking into the option of live streaming games and competitions, and more information will be shared as it becomes available.
