Employee, student and guest mask guidance for the 2021-22 school year

Are masks required for the 2021-22 school year?

Yes. Current guidance from the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is that students, school employees, and all guests will wear approved face coverings during the school day when indoors—regardless of immunization status. Updated guidance was also provided by the DOH around sporting activities and fitness that alters our approach to some outdoor activities for vaccinated students.

Washington state public schools are required to follow the authority of their local health boards under chapter 70.05 RCW. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have adhered to the guidance of the DOH, the Snohomish Health District, and OSPI. These authorities are the experts in public health, and LSSD will continue to adhere to their guidance.

We acknowledge that safety measures—including masks—can be inconvenient and frustrating. We are eager to do all we can to get our community safely to the end of this pandemic and back to “better than normal.” We will continue to provide updates as we receive them.
